The City of Calgary is growing. One of the side effects of this growth is and increased volume of traffic on city streets. As the major routes become more congested, commuters and those who travel around Calgary as part of their daily routine, search for alternate routes. Unfortunately, the streets and avenues in Ramsay have become some of those alternate routes. Data collected by The City of Calgary on the volume of traffic within Ramsay shows that 33 to 43 percent of the traffic is ‘shortcutting' through the community, i.e. using the streets and avenues in Ramsay as through roads. This is why Ramsay currently is at the top of the list of Calgary communities in need of traffic calming. Shortcutting traffic, for the most part, has a negative effect on the vitality, liveability and safety of the community as a whole.

The City Transportation Planners consider the number of respondents and the overall support sufficient to move forward in the process. We hope to see traffic calming proposals implemented in 2006.
